The Arvert peninsula with its forest, La Tremblade oyster beds, the paths through the Marais (Marshes), and the pretty village of Mornac are other places to discover.

Marennes- Oléron oyster beds, Brouage, the Islands: Oleron, Aix, Ré, not forgetting l’île Madame the smallest as well as all the forts like the well known Fort-Boyard,

Rochefort : la Corderie Royale, the drydock for the Hermione, explorer Pierre Loti’s house….

La Rochelle : its massive marina les Minimes, the huge modern aquarium and the maritime centre……

Inland, Saintes and la Saintonge with its Gallo-roman remains, and all the architectural legacy of the Romans, the many magnificent churches, the chateaux….

And of course, slightly further away: the Médoc, Cognac, le Marais Poitevin…..
